Starfish Newsletter - Summer Term 2

Welcome back everyone, I hope you have all enjoyed the half-term break and are raring to go. We have an exciting Summer term planned in the Starfish Class and we are pleased to also welcome back Miss Olivia McGibbon from her maternity leave. Miss McGibbon will be teaching on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The new Cornerstones project is called ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious’ and the children will be tucking in and enjoying a yummy journey of discovery, tasting fantastic fruits, venerable vegetables and tantalizing treats. They will work up an appetite with delicious stories about food, have fun with a vegetable orchestra and become a fruity sculptor. We will be finding exciting recipes to read – and writing our own, too. The class will be getting busy in the kitchen, making tasty dishes from across the world and discovering how good food helps you grow fit and strong.

Our Maths topics this term are; Time, Mass, Capacity and Temperature. Some pupils will be learning how to tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past/to the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times. Other children will be telling the time using the 24-hour clock.

In our SPAG lessons, this term the children will be applying their knowledge of grammatical structures and tense to write recounts and also draw on their understanding of the text to answer comprehension questions. The children will be using the new writing toolkit to thoroughly check their work and identify if they have used the correct punctuation marks, formed their letters consistently and used a range of adjectives to make their writing more appealing to the reader.

Thank you for your continued support. The Starfish team!
